University of Ghana Students Invited to Apply for Erasmus+ Exchange at Freie Universität Berlin

The International Programmes Office of the University of Ghana (UG) has announced two exchange placement opportunities for qualified UG students under the Erasmus+ Student Exchange Programme at Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin), Germany.

The exchange will take place during the Summer Term (April to July) of the 2026/2027 academic year, providing selected students with an opportunity to study in Germany while gaining international academic and cultural experience.

Under the exchange arrangement, two University of Ghana students will be selected to participate in the Erasmus+ Student Exchange Programme at Freie Universität Berlin.

Students interested in the opportunity can review the available English-taught courses offered during the semester before applying.

Who Can Apply?

The opportunity is open to the following categories of University of Ghana students:

  • Undergraduate students in their 2nd or 3rd year with a CGPA of 3.0 or above.
  • MPhil students.

Applicants should ensure that they meet the relevant eligibility requirements before submitting their applications.

What Does the Programme Provide?

Freie Universität Berlin will provide selected students with monthly stipends to support their stay and other allowable expenses during the exchange period.

However, applicants should note that the stipend does not necessarily cover every cost associated with studying abroad.

Selected students will be responsible for:

  • Processing their own visa;
  • Paying incidental and other out-of-pocket expenses not covered by the programme; and
  • Making the necessary preparations for their stay in Germany.

Students are therefore encouraged to plan their finances carefully before accepting the exchange opportunity.

Application Requirements

Interested University of Ghana students must submit their application documents in PDF format.

The required documents are:

1. Letter of Motivation

Applicants must submit a one-page letter of motivation explaining their interest in the exchange programme and their academic objectives.

2. Passport Details

A copy of the passport details page is required.

The passport must have an expiration date beyond December 2028.

3. Recommendation Letter

Applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from their Head of Department.

4. Original Academic Transcript

Applicants are required to submit their original academic transcripts.

5. Proof of English Proficiency

Applicants must obtain a proof of proficiency in English letter from the University of Ghana Language Centre.

Students are required to use their academic transcript as a supporting document when requesting the letter.

6. Current Curriculum Vitae

A current Curriculum Vitae (CV) must be included in the application.

7. Passport-Size Photograph

Applicants must submit one coloured passport-size photograph.
