The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has awarded scholarships to 150 tertiary students from its host communities, reinforcing its commitment to education, youth development and improved opportunities for young people in its operational areas.

The scholarship presentation ceremony was held in Tarkwa and brought together beneficiaries, parents, traditional leaders, Assembly Members, stakeholders and representatives of Gold Fields Ghana Limited.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President of Community at Gold Fields Ghana Limited, Dr. Celestina Allotey, disclosed that 3,092 students have benefited from the Foundation's tertiary scholarship programme since its establishment in 2005.

The latest beneficiaries include 86 females, highlighting the Foundation's continued support for increasing access to tertiary education among young women.

Additionally, 50 of the 150 scholarship recipients received their basic education in schools within Gold Fields' host communities, demonstrating the programme's role in supporting students from communities directly connected to the company's operations.

Supporting Education Beyond Scholarships

The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to education through a range of initiatives designed to improve access to learning and prepare young people for future opportunities.

Beyond tertiary scholarships, the Foundation supports educational infrastructure, learning materials, VIBE and practical workplace-readiness initiatives.

These interventions are aimed not only at helping students access education but also at equipping them with relevant skills and experiences for the world of work.

UMaT Vice Chancellor Chairs Ceremony

The ceremony was chaired by Prof. Bernard Kumi Boateng, Vice Chancellor of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT).

It was also attended by Nana Dr. Adarkwa Bediako III, Gyasehene of Apinto, alongside other traditional leaders from various catchment communities.

Assembly Members, parents, stakeholders and the scholarship beneficiaries were also present to witness the presentation.

The continued expansion of the scholarship programme reflects the Foundation's broader investment in human capital development within Gold Fields' host communities.

With thousands of students having benefited since 2005, the programme remains one of the Foundation's key interventions in promoting tertiary education and creating pathways for young people to pursue professional careers.
