How to choose: major, combined major or minor

  • Single major: all core courses of one subject plus electives (not available in Political Science).
  • Combined major: usually two core courses and one elective per subject each semester; take research methods in only one department.
  • Minor: a lighter load in the second subject, often one core course and one elective.
  • Prerequisites matter: several Level 300 second-semester courses (for example SOCI 322/324/326) require the matching first-semester course.
